Goodreads Review A Different Kind of Luxury

A Different Kind of Luxury: Japanese Lessons in Simple Living and Inner AbundanceA Different Kind of Luxury: Japanese Lessons in Simple Living and Inner Abundance by Andy Couturier

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It took me a few months to finish the book because each story is full of insight and no words were waste, and I wanted to really appreciate each story before moving on. Each individual featured in the book is so interesting and I would love to sit with each (those still living) and talk. A few quotes:

“Why is it that I as a human am alive?” – Atsuko Watanabe

“Today people think the word ‘psychedelic’ means just taking drugs, but the main meaning is from the Latin roots of the words, psyche-delos ‘to open the soul.’ So if the method for doing this was drugs, that was OK, but it also included yoga, meditation. and the exploration of thought itself.” – Masanori Oe

Andy’s writing makes you feel like you are there with each person, like a fly on the wall.
